  14. ''PACIFIC POWERHOUSE'' KATASHI NOSE, KH6IJ, SK

  16. On April 7, 79-year-old Katashi Nose, KH6IJ, of Honolulu, Hawaii-
  17. -one of Amateur Radio's best-liked operators--died from a severe
  18. stroke.
  19.  
  20. Nose, a famous contest op and DXer with a string of ham radio firsts
  21. and accomplishments, was also famous for patiently working and
  22. tutoring Novices on 15 and 10 meters.
  23.  
  24. KH6IJ, licensed in 1932 as K6CGK, was the first KH6 ham to qualify
  25. for the League's DX Century Club and Worked All States Awards. In
  26. 1952, he received his Amateur Extra Class ticket, the fifth US ham
  27. to do so.

  29. For 56 years, Katashi wrote a newspaper column on ham radio for his
  30. local newspaper. He also wrote many articles for QST and other ham
  31. magazines.

  33. Nose earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaii in
  34. 1937, and a masters degree from Harvard in 1960. He is survived by
  35. his wife Matsuyo, daughters Elizabeth Nose and Frances McKenney, son
  36. Joseph, and a son-in-law, Michael McKenney.

  38. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 13.
